August/September Volunteers of the Month

Congratulations to our three invaluable Volunteers of the Month—Somer Burke, Barbara Rooks and Donna Clark. Let’s get to know them a little better!
Somer Burke’s son, Miles, is in Mrs. Bahs’ second-grade classroom and daughter, Tinsley, is in first grade with Ms. Hahn. “I enjoy knowing the staff and students that my kids spend their days with,” says Somer, whose nominator explained how she helped the year get off to a good start by organizing homework folders and bringing in extra supplies. “I know how hard everyone works to make sure that my children are happy, safe and learning. I want to support those efforts. Our family is new to Clark. I’ve heard only the very best things about this school and the PTA. I look forward to getting to know more Clark families and staff, and of course, spending much more time volunteering.”
Barbara Rooks is a familiar face to her personal Clark Cougars—niece Mrs. Del Castillo, Gunnar (4th grade) and Lucas (kindergarten), and teachers are grateful for her help organizing supplies, hanging bulletin boards and working on projects at home. “I remember the first day Clark opened as a new school and was there helping on their opening day,” says Barbara, who also volunteers in the Children’s Ministry at the Crossing Church and at South Tampa Health and Rehab. “It’s rewarding to know I get to help at Clark so many years later, in a different way! It’s very rewarding to volunteer in a school with teachers and students who appreciate you.”
Donna Clark’s daughter, Kinsey, is in 4th grade. The family volunteers together for Cat Crusaders and NTAA (softball), but the 22 students in Mrs. Gupta’s classroom are grateful that Donna also put up the word wall in their classroom, scanned all their textbooks and is helping them get more fluent with their math facts. “I LOVE helping out at Clark Elementary because it has such an uplifting atmosphere, so many friendly faces, and there’s nothing like the opportunity to embarrass your kiddo in front of her friends!” Donna says. “Volunteering is rewarding and just feels good.  I will continue to haunt the halls at Clark, volunteering whenever possible.
We love our volunteers and everything all of you do to make our school the very best it can be. Thank you for all that you do!
